What If Your Business Was Like The TV Show 24?

By Paul Cooley · Thursday, June 25th, 2009 · No Comments »

24_-_jack_bauerFor the month of July I have really been taking a hard look at my business. I have been restructuring my business model, adding and substracting elements, and examining why I am online….

It can be a lot to think about, but it is necessary. One of the questions I asked myself was, what if my life in business and my business model was like the show 24? Now, because 24 is one of my favorite TV shows (really the ONLY show I watch) I know a little about the show. :)

Yes, lots of action and drama go on in that 24 hour periode, but there is one aspect that sticks out the most when it comes to my question. There were times when Jack Bouer would have to go “dark”, meaning he had to go off the radar so no one could find him. He had to do what it took to get the job done without anyone backing him.

So what would happen if I went “dark”? Would anyone notice? Have I effected the Industry in a way where people would miss the value I offer? Or would anything change at all? Not to mention, is my current business model setup in a way where if I did go “dark” would the money streams dry up or keep coming?

These may seem like weird questions, but I think they are important ones to ask for multiple reasons…

First off, this question forces me to look at myself and examine if I am truly adding value to others or am I just in it for selfish gain.

Secondly, if something happened or if I disappeared, my business model should be setup in such a way where there are passive income streams always flowing. If not, we have a problem!

If we are not really adding any value to our Industry, then we really aren’t standing out from everyone else. When we are true leaders that add value to those around us, then we stand out. Then we are making a positive impact in our Industry.

If it’s been a while since you have taken a close look at your current business model, I encourage you to do so. Business models seem to be overlooked by many, so don’t be one of the many. You never know when life throws a hard blow at you and you will beed to go “dark”… You better have the streams of income flowing.

So take some time to think about these things today….

Will I be going “dark”? Well, it wouldn’t be fare for me to leak that kind of information… Time will tell. :)

Keep moving forward!
