With all the new marketing tactics, ideas and opportunities popping up all over the net, it’s very easy to get distracted from our main purpose as Entrepreneurs and running a successful business. With all the different options out there, it can become very easy to spend hours upon hours a day staying so busy and never make a penny. There is a time and a place to for socializing and there is a time and place for being productive…
It could be argued that you are helping people when socializing and that can be very true, but it’s still not bringing in any income. If you want to help people, you can help people without trying to grow a business. Because we are Entrepreneurs, we have the privilege of being able to help people and make an income. How cool!
When you start to scrape away all the distractions out there on the net, it comes down to two main things you need in order to build a successful business. One is Traffic and Two is Salesmanship (obviously, you need a quality product or service)… Let me explain…
If no one ever goes to your site, then you will never make any sales! Generating endless traffic should be a priority for the growth of your business. There are different ways to do this, I would say the main three are, SEO (Search Engine Optimization), Social Media, PPC (Pay Per Click Advertising).
Now if that seems scary or overwhelming there is good news! This stuff can be outsources!
But my point in bringing all this up is to encourage you to take the time and learn a skill. Then step it up a notch and be the best! There is awesome training that can be found on all the topics we just covered. I am in the process of making training videos on all those topics for the members in Possessing Your Land.
If money isn’t tight for you and you are not in a hurry to generate traffic and leads, then you can pick any of the above to learn. But, if you need money fast then I believe one of the quickest ways to generate leads and traffic is PPC. In one of the Network Marketing companies I was with, I was able to generate a down line of over a thousand people in less than a month using Google Adwords. That shows the power of Google Adwords if used right. Google Adwords is a game in itself and you must take the time to learn how to play the game. It’s horrible to be “Google Slapped”! I have heard of people spending around .35 cents a click and suddenly over $10.00 per click! That’s crazy! If you would like to learn how to use Google Adwords and PPC, I encourage you to pick up a copy of Perry Marshall’s Definitive Guide To Goodle Adwords, it’s an in depth look into using Google Adwords and not getting Google Slapped! It’s it well worth of the investment. Believe me, you will spend much more money trying to figure it out on your own, so just get the book!
If you are not into reading and would rather watch step by step videos on how to use Google Adwords, then you have to check out Mike Dillard’s “Pay-Per-Click Domination Course“. Seriously, if you are serious about dominating the PPC scene, you’ll want to check this training out.
Now let’s talk for a moment about Salesmanship…
It does you no good if you are getting tons of traffic to your site if they are not buying or signing up for anything. This is where the Salesmanship comes in. What I really want to focus on is Salesmanship in print. Writing good sales copy is HUGE if you want lots of paying customers! Copywriting is known as the “Million Dollar Skill” and it is with good reason. Copywriting is a skill that is well worth the investment to learn, there are many making six and seven figure incomes just writing sales copy for other businesses. I’m not going to get into writing sales page letters right now, although we will be covering it soon. If you think about it, if you are using Google Adwords, writing compelling sales copy in just a few words is huge. Writing something that will stand out from all the others is something needed when playing the Google Adwords game. I can’t speak more highly of taking the time to invest in yourself and learn copywriting. I personally have gone through Yanik Silver’s Ultimate Copywriting Workshop and some other mini training coarses like a three part call with Mike Dillard and Ben Settle. I also recommend checking out Michael Fortin’s site.
I really encourage all of you to take some time and examine how you are spending your time growing your business and what the return is. Taking the time to learn a skill is a very smart way to go. Not only will you be able to grow your business better and faster, but you will be an asset to others who need your skills.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!
I would also like to hear any skills you have already invested in and how they are working out for you.
Until next time, keep moving forward.
